Proposal

Today while just flipping the channels came across this program on star plus called star vivah. The host of the show were talking to a young boy who was looking for a suitable girl for marriage. His parents were also present. He wanted a girl who will wear saree, respect elders , he went on to explain that when she enters a room where there are elders she should on her own cover her head with her pallu and touch their feet. ( ladki sanskari chaheye)

What if she wears western cloths but is still very respectful to elders....will it make a difference??
Why do we feel that a girl who is westernized and working won't be a good wife/ bahu material?? Why can't a girl who is wearing western clothes be sanskari?? Hamari Sooch bahut choti hai.I think we are confused. On one hand we want independent working woman but we expect her to give 100% to our family. Now if the girl is working where does she has the time for household chores or to entertain any of her in-laws ?

There was another guy who said he wants an open minded girl.... what does he mean by that??? Does he mean she should turn blind eye to all his vices?? Does he mean that he wants a girl who won't mind him going out with other women after marriage?? Will he be equally open minded ??

Sanskars are something that cannot be thought to anyone( both girl/boy) in one day. They are imbibed while you are growing up. We should teach our children the same what we expect from their spouses.

Our elders used to say... shaadi ki liye ladki ke sanskar aur ladke ki kamaye dekhi jate hai. But now a days we are getting carried away by the looks :(

sanskar..(sun's car)..

snehaji.. ye post me mere saare dost jo apne liye ladki dhundh rahe hai unko jaruur padhaunga..

mere views iss post ke liye bahot frank hai..

1. sab elders ko sanskari ladki hi chahiye apne beto ke liye. lekin apne beto me qualities to dekho. ek bhi nazar aati hai kya? (eheh :P ek bhi nahi milegi shayad..)

2. aur ladke jo khud sanskari ladki ko pasand karte hai.. unke liye.. ke bhaiyo sudhar jaao.. ye SEETA AUR GEETA, wala zamaana nahi hai.. tumhe life partner chahiye ya sanskari servant?
(agar life partner ko dhundh rahe ho to aise dhundho jo tumhare jaise ho.. :P)

3. ladkiyon ne abhi sanskaar nahi chhode.. bahot saare girls hai jo western dress pahenti hai, job karti hai, apne hobbies pure karte hai,, lekin fir bhi.. iska matlab ye nahi ki wo sanskari nahi hai..

whenever we talk of marriages and sanskars are involved all responsibilities are thrown on the gal ..gal shud be dis dat , sgud do dis , sudnt do dat ... guys are not supposed to fulfill expectations it seems ... and all the time theres so much talk about sanskars on tv shows , movies ...i wonder whether really we have those or just talk about them ....

Thank you for the interesting post. Our society is in the transition stage. People tend to pick up things that are suitable from them from the old and new lifestyle. Best regards.

Having recently joined Friend's Park, I stumbled upon your blog. The title intrigued me and I felt compelled to read, and I must confess that the post hit the right spot.

We Indians are always in a hurry to do anything. When we think we need to be modernized, we forget to understand the concept of modernization. Mostly we associate westernization/modernization with wearing western clothes, speaking impeccable English and trying to look more than what we are. When we think of open-mindedness, do we really know what that means? People use this word without really understanding its meaning. I feel disgusted when they say it, because I find them nothing short of a bunch of hypocrites trying to show the world they are the best people to hang out with.

Being modern has nothing to do with cultural values. Being modern is a thought process - moving along with the flow, keeping abreast of new values and tradition. Wearing denims and bowing before God has the same effect as wearing a saree. What matters is the purity of thoughts and sincerity in actions. I really liked this post, because it gave me the freedom to express my own feelings on a slightly different but totally related subject.

Cheers,
Vittal.
